Myofascial Release

Achy Muscles Got You Down? Myofascial Release Could Provide Relief.

Are Your Muscles Bothering You Lately?

Do you have stiff or tight muscles? Muscle aches and pains may have a huge effect on your everyday life, but with myofascial release, sore muscles can be a thing of the past.

Myofascial pain is caused by muscular discomfort, and the myofascial release treatments at PacificPro Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine can help you if you have this condition.

Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy treatment in the form of massage that helps alleviate pain by relieving tension within the affected muscles.

One of our physical therapists will be pleased to meet with you and discuss how myofascial release can support you!

If your sore or tight muscles are interfering with your everyday activities, don’t be afraid to make an appointment.

What can myofascial release help with?

Myofascial release can help you find pain relief for many kinds of injuries and disorders. These conditions can significantly affect your mobility when muscles become constricted or tight, causing pain and movement restrictions.

Fortunately, by loosening up the constricted muscles, myofascial release helps to reverse this, allowing faster, pain-free movement.

With myofascial release, many conditions can be handled. Some of the most frequent ones include:

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome patients may benefit from the myofascial release treatment, which involves massaging the muscles in their hands, wrists, and/or arms to improve function and mobility.

Venous insufficiency

Myofascial release can help reduce the amount of blood pooled in the veins and allow for more effective blood flow, reducing vein pain.

Myofascial pain syndrome

This is the most common disorder treated with myofascial release, and it can involve a variety of your muscles.

The “trigger points” for your myofascial pain are identified and massaged away.

Temporomandibular joint disorder

The muscles around the jaw are massaged through myofascial release in many patients with temporomandibular joint disorder.

This decreases pain and inflammation, as well as increases mobility of the jaw.

Fibromyalgia

This condition can also cause stiffness in multiple muscles.

The affected areas will be determined and then massaged.

Chronic headaches/migraines

Myofascial release has also been known to relieve the pain of chronic headaches and migraines by massaging the tightened muscles around the head and neck.

Injury

Injuries can also cause muscle stiffness.

The affected area will be massaged to loosen up the muscles and allow for a quicker healing process.

Our physical therapists are well-versed in the myofascial release technique. They have a thorough understanding of which pressure points to target to restore the fascia to its normal elastic state.

If you have been diagnosed with one of the conditions listed above, or another condition that you think could benefit from myofascial release, contact our Southern California physical therapy office today.
